SEA BUCKTHORN OIL – HIPPOPHAE RHAMNOIDES

“Sea buckthorn oil, derived from the berries of Hippophae rhamnoides, has been revered for centuries due to its remarkable cell-regenerating benefits for skin. Sea buckthorn oil is packed with essential fatty acids and phenolic compounds that make it suitable for all skin types.”

Derived from the Hippophae rhamnoides shrub, sea buckthorn oil is extracted from the yellow-orange berries it bears. The liquid itself is thick and golden. Many cosmetics contain sea buckthorn oil for its high concentration of palmitoleic acid (omega-7).

Palmitoleic acid is commonly found in macadamia nuts but is also present at high levels within sea buckthorn seed oil. It is found in human skin, but naturally decreases with age. It plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy cell membranes while promoting collagen production for youthful-looking skin. It accelerates wound healing (1).

Recent clinical studies have reported that palmitoleic acid might be useful in treating skin disorders related to hyperpigmentation, bacterial infections, or fibrosis (2).

The color of sea buckthorn oil is often an intense orange-red hue due to the high carotenoid and lycopene content. It can help brighten complexion, eliminate inflammation, protect the natural moisture barrier from damage due to dryness, and inhibit the aging process (3).
